APS journals OFFLINE

Fondren Library has been in contact with APS regarding the campus' inability to access fulltext of our journal subscriptions with them (e.g. Physical Review Letters).

They are aware of the problem - it is with their system and they hope to have access restored by late afternoon.

Hurricane Sandy affecting Fondren Services

As many of our digital information providers have their servers in the area impacted by Hurricane Sandy, and so have no power, certain of Fondren Library's services may not operate well for the next several days.

We currently are aware of outages for:

  • Syndetics service :  this is what includes the "A look inside" the book information (summaries, reviews, more detailed tables of contents)
  • Books in Print
  • SBRnet.

 ProQuest® will be performing infrastructure maintenance on Saturday, September 29, 2012. A twelve (12) hour maintenance window will be required for this maintenance to install the latest enhancements to the ProQuest platform. Fondren Library's proxy is malfunctioning, affecting on-campus and off-campus  access to digital resources.

Attempts to restart the proxy within the library's admon module have failed.  We have logged an urgent request with campus IT to manually restart this service.

ScienceDirect & Scopus offline 8/18 & 8/19

ScienceDirect (Elsevier journals & reference books) and Scopus (indexing tool) are expected to be offline and unavailable for approximately 19 hours beginning Saturday, August 25th, 2012 for scheduled maintenance for a new release.

What are the changes you will see with this new release?

ScienceDirect:    Effortless access to relevant information thanks to a new design for journal article and book chapter pages as well as improved user experience for RSS feeds, image search, and other features.

Scopus:               Easy updates with Alerts Features functionality improvement.

The downtime is expected as follows:

Houston Time: 6:30 AM EDT Saturday, August 25th - 1:30 AM EDT, Sunday, August 26th

Westlaw Download Malfunctioning (7/9/12) - Work Around / RESOLVED

Westlaw Campus Research is malfunctioning during the document download process (midway through downloading a PDF case or document, it is demanding a login/password).

Fondren Library does not have a login/password to provide - we are pursuing this problem with the publisher.

Until this is resolved, please note that you can successfully email the PDF documents to yourself.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and hope to have the problem resolved shortly.

UPDATE
Please note that the problem appears to have been related to Westlaw's required settings relating to pop-up blocking.  Be sure to look at the instructions on the Library's Westlaw resource page re how to set your browser's pop-up management.

Please let us know if you believe you've followed these instructions and still are having problems.

OneSearch & Ebsco databases down, 3/27/12 am

Our vendor Ebsco is having system-wide difficulties today.  This impacts:

  • for some people:  Fondren Library's OneSearch (hint - use the Classic Catalog of the library's website for books, print journal titles, videos, etc. For articles please see one of the subject research guides, which may help you find a source for articles.)
  • all of the EbscoHost databases.  This includes popular favorites such as Academic Source Complete, Business Source Complete, Art Index, Humanities International Complete, MLA International Bibliography, Avery Index, etc.
We hope the problem will soon be resolved.

Update: Ebsco has resolved their service issues, and all databases/search engines should now be working.  Our apologies for the inconvenience.

IEEExplore searches lost, 4/1/2012

On 1 April 2012 IEEE will release their new platform. While many new features will be added with this release, please note: Saved Searches and Search History will be deleted

All current saved searches and search history records will be DELETED with this release. We encourage users to copy and paste their saved searches into a document so they can recreate the search after launch. IEEE has communicated to all saved search alert holders about this change. Table of Contents alerts are not affected and will remain active.

New features incorporated into IEEE Xplore with this release include:
  • Enhanced and more streamlined abstract page
  • Enhanced browsing by title with the inclusion of refinements
  • More prominent institutional branding
  • New placement of sign-in links for personal accounts and institutional accounts
  • New and improved IEEE personal account registration process
  • New citation diagram
  • And more
