Update re: Access to Fondren electronic resources

Dear Rice faculty, staff, and students:

As Rice moves to the new network, Fondren Library realizes that there have been issues with access to electronic resources due to an additional IP address range that Rice falls into. For most people, there have been no issues with access to electronic resources so if you have been moved to the new network and haven't experienced any issues, you probably wont. However, for some, there have been access issues that have required you to use proxy or vpn when on campus.

Fondren Library would like the Rice community to know that we have been working with our publishers and vendors to have them include the new IP range. With over 60,000 titles, this has been a time consuming and 'at their mercy' task. Currently, we are about 98% verified with our publishers that the new IP range has been added. We are continuing to test access to the journals and contacting those publishers who have not complied with our request. We ask your patience in this temporary situation until we can get all publishers and resources verified. If you do encounter a problem with access to an electronic resource, please log a ticket (http://helpdesk.rice.edu/submit.html) as you normally would and we will address the issue. Please provide as much information as possible to assist us (i.e. resource, year, issue, error messages, etc.)

Thank you for your patience as we move forward to make our network better.

Sincerely,
Sara Lowman
Director of Fondren Library
and Interim University Librarian
