Library resource listings down, 2/18/2008

The Cold Fusion server system which supports portions of the library's website has gone offline. Fondren Library staff have reported the problem to Web Services and we trust the problem will be resolved quickly.

Affected areas include:
* all resource listings: lists of indexes & databases, reference sources, news sources, electronic text collections, and the subject-specific research guides
* the lists of materials proposed for transfer to the offsite Library Service Center

Unaffected are:
* the library's Webcat (if you know the name of the index or database you want to use, please search Webcat - the descriptive entry for the index will include a live link to the resource!)
* the library's Ejournal Portal listing of all online serials

We apologize for the inconvenience of this temporary service outage and are working to quickly resolve the problem.

IEEE Xplore Feb 19 & 21 Maintenance

This just in from IEEE:

"Dear IEEE Subscriber,

To minimize the need for IEEE Xplore downtime in the future, we have undertaken a significant effort to prepare a failover site in Arizona. These efforts are nearing completion, and require a live test where we route normal levels of IEEE Xplore traffic to that location.

During this test, users may experience up to one hour of downtime on Tuesday, 19 February, 2008, beginning at 10:00AM EST. When we transfer traffic back to our New Jersey facility, on Thursday, 21 February, 2008, users can again expect up to one hour of downtime, beginning at 8:00AM EST.

An alert will be posted to the IEEE Xplore home page. Please encourage your users to take this into account as they plan their research. If you have questions, please contact onlinesupport@ieee.org."

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
